Lower Your Risk of Diabetes

Saturday, May 31, 2008

I read an article on Prevention.com today that said eating one tablespoon of peanut butter five times a week can lower your risk of diabetes by 20 to 30%. Diabetes runs in my family: my mother and my sister have it, my mother's sister and their mother had it, and my oldest daughter has been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I get tested every few years just to make sure everything's okay, and my last test showed no problems at all. Even though I often go several days in a row without any peanut butter, I probably consume more than all of them put together. If only we had known about this amazing benefit before they developed diabetes!

The Best Peanut Butter in the Universe

I first wrote about this on my other blog, and I still think that this is the best peanut butter in the universe. This stuff is like a giant spreadable Reese's peanut butter cup. And since studies have shown that peanut butter consumption can lower your risk of diabetes, I figure it's health food. Made by Peanut Butter & Co., who also have a sandwich shop in New York City, Dark Chocolate Dreams contains no cholesterol, no trans-fats, no hydrogenated oils, and no high-fructose corn syrup. It is also gluten-free, vegan, and kosher. Don't worry if your local store doesn't carry it, you can order it from PB&Co.'s website, along with a variety of other PB flavors, jellies and preserves, snacks, and PB&Co. gear.
